October 6-7, 2007

Our loosely associated group and our rigs at the Moyie Springs Fall 2007 Mud Bog- Mountain Explorers, Mud Sluts, Mudallica, and others.

Buckwheat, Kenny and their group of about 7 people; Keith, Jen, Shay, and their group of about 5 others, Smitty and his group of about 10, Jessica, Hooper, Richard, Carlee, Leon "Pappy" and Carrie, Dustin, Dustin's parents, Wayne, Larry and Sara, John and a few others.

MY ORANGE BLAZER...

My '75 K5 "The Orange Blazer" that sat non-running for 3 years was stripped down to a body/frame as of October 4th 2007 at 3:00 PM. At 5:30 AM October 5th we drove it on the trailer about 75% done, and finished it on-site at Moyie by installing the rear gears and locker and driveline and other pieces.

The Orange Blazer parts breakdown:

Frame and Body: Free after parting it out the 1st time in 2002.

Front Dana 60 4.56 axle: Free after parting out 81 Crew Cab

Rear 14-bolt full-floater housing: Free- came out of a $250 parts truck that I sold the motor, tranny and tires and hood off of and got $450 back= $200 profit plus I kept a SB400 and front Dana 44.

Rear 4.56 gears: factory ones we pulled out of my 292 inline 6 cylinder Chevy 1-ton

Rear Detroit Locker: Came out of my Blue/White GMC, paid $150 for it years ago used

350 Motor with headers: Came out of a parts truck... depending on how you calculate it I'm into it somewhere between free and $425, pulled it out of one truck and switched flywheels and carb's and dropped it in the Blazer. It has an aluminum Edelbrock intake and Camel Hump heads probably standard 1.94 valves, other than that I know nothing about it except it doesnt smoke and it hasnt started knocking. Yet.

TH350 Tranny: Came out of a 78 Chevy truck and was supposedly rebuilt. I kept the rebuilt tranny and 454 out of that truck, swapped a stock 350/TH350 in it and re-sold the truck for more than I paid for it. So tranny was pretty much free.

NP205 T-case and adapter: Free: Kept it out of a '70 K5 I had a while back

Drivelines and u-joints: Pieced together out of used stuff I had laying around.

Rear shackle flip: came off my Blue/White GMC, I think I paid $75 when I bought it new

Front chrome tube bumper: Came off a '73 K5 Blazer I bought then re-sold

Tailgate: It was straight and already had the checkered flag paint job, kept it off a 2wd shortbed I traded for then re-sold

B&M Floor Shifter: Came out of a '67 Chevy 2wd I bought for $250 and parted out for $250 and kept the shifter

The Nerf Bars: Came off a friends Ford F-150 before he traded it in

4-core Radiator and tranny cooler: Came out of Travis's old K5

Torque converter: Came out of some 2wd TH350 tranny that Joe told me was stock out of a 76-ish Corvette

Ok, so for this weekend I had to buy NEW oil and a NEW filter and some NEW gear lube, and splurged and bought NEW Autolite 26 spark plugs. I had to go buy new gas too since we already siphoned all the gas out of the parts trucks sitting in my field. But I still ran used mismatched plug wires, a used Edelbrock carb, used distributor cap and rotor and adjusted the timing by ear. Oh and the antifreeze was used too... I saved it out of the truck the motor came out of. Did have to buy NEW Automatic tranny fluid though.

The newish looking 37" Boggers on newish 16x10 Eagle Alloy rims: Ok so I spent the most I ever have and have $700 into this set of rims and tires bought second hand but basically new, mounted myself by a screwdriver and PAM cooking spray last year.

Other than that, pretty much no money has been actually put into this thing.

OTHER FACTS OF INTEREST:

Dustin ripped his drivers side shock mount out of the frame.

Shay, Josh and Hooper got drunk and began wrestling around. Hooper had to get taken to the hospital for leg injuries and was on crutches on Sunday.

Hooper's front gears were bad and swapped in 3.73's in place of 4.10s and got 3 passes before they went bad.

Jessica's Ford axle U-joint went bad.

Larry's Suburban got in an accidental rear ending accident in the pit, but little damage done to the back of his Suburban.

Richard, Carlee, Pappy, and Dustin's parents all had Dead Battery problems. My spare battery got used between Josh's and Richard's Toyota's.

Smitty's Toyota burnt up a TH350 tranny.

Pappy's Blazer blew out something internal in the front axle.

The Start- Leaving Ione after spending Thursday night assembling the Orange Blazer from a frame and tub to a running rig. We stripped it down to a frame and tub on blocks in late August and hadnt had time to lay a finger on it since.

Not 100% complete but it drove onto the trailer in front wheel drive

Towed it to Moyie where at our campsite we installed the rear end gears and locker, and a bunch of other details like rear driveline and T-case yoke and seal and air breather, carb, and other add-ons like the grille etc...
